FOUNDED OVER 150 YEARS AGO BY ANN TAYLOR

The Unity Hall has stood opposite Unity Square, at the corner of Darling and Beattie Streets in Balmain, since 1875.

 

Its first publican, Ann Taylor, transferred her licence here from the original Unity Hall — now the Oddfellows Hall on the corner of Darling and Nicholson Streets in Balmain East. In 1891, the Australian Labor Party was founded here, in a gathering of shearers and working men who chose a Balmain pub to change the country.

 

Through different owners, two pandemics and a century and a half of change, The Unity Hall has remained what it always was: a meeting place for locals, visitors, families and friends.
